A major multi‑site NHS Trust sought support to address growing workforce pressures, rising demand and increasing reliance on temporary staffing. The organisation faced significant challenges across several clinical services, including rota fragility, persistent vacancies and pressures on education and training.
The review highlighted that while core establishments were largely appropriate, the real issue was sustainability. Several specialties required investment to maintain safety and training standards, while others presented clear opportunities to reduce costs through improved workforce stability.
The organisation received a clear, prioritised set of recommendations that enabled it to improve clinical rota resilience across key specialties and reduce dependence on locums and agency staff. This gave the organisation the opportunity to enhance staff experience and improve training opportunities.
By proceeding with KBC recommendations there was circa £4 million potential in efficiencies within reach and long term opportunities through service redesign.
The evaluation provided the organisation with a refreshed, system-wide understanding of risk and opportunity within its medical workforce. The resulting roadmap is now supporting improved safety, greater stability and more efficient use of resources.
“We engaged KBC to do a diagnostic and deep dive of two of our larger specialties. KBC has been the easiest Consultancy we have ever come across to work alongside and they delivered real tangible workforce efficiencies.
No-one in the organisation has had a bad word to say about the company or their approach. We have really enjoyed working with the team and I would be happy to recommend KBC to anyone considering engaging their services.” – Deputy Medical Director
