Creating best-practice workforce alignment strategies to facilitate the most cost-effective way to staff clinical services. All services are unique to an individual clients’ needs.
Our services are unique to an individual client’s needs. Our most popular products include:
Emergency Department
For many patients, the gateway to care is the Emergency Department (ED). Through interviews with lead clinicians we build clinical workforce models which align to departmental activity.
Patient arrival is complex. Case mix, staffing groups and contracts, attendance patterns, department size and layout, admission profile, bed availability, social care provision, interaction with and availability of services such as frailty, SDEC/combined assessment and treatment, and mental health provision are just some of the factors that need to be considered when producing a plan.
Working with lead clinicians, we create data-driven simulations to analyse ED performance and sensitivity to fluctuations. Our recommendations are made in terms of number and type of clinician and organisation of their working patterns in terms of rotas and rosters.
Job Planning
Job Planning is critical for consultants to ensure that their career progress aligns with both their individual and team aspirations and ambitions, as well as their organisations priorities.
Job plans need to ensure that there is adequate time for continued professional development, other roles and the service they provide to patients.
Job planning is not just about timetabling activities, it is the mechanism to improve care and services to patients and the work life balance of consultants. It’s a collaborative process where consultants and managers discuss and agree on how the consultant’s time will be distributed.
The workload and demand, both current and future, needs to be accurately assessed and the consultant workforce planned accordingly so the job plans balance duties such as: patient care, teaching, research, and administrative tasks.
Job planning often involves reviewing current workloads, setting goals, and aligning efforts with organisational priorities. This is where KBC Healthcare Consultants, with our extensive experience of consultant job planning, having been involved in the national consultant contract implementation team and working collaboratively with consultants for nearly 15 years can assist. We work with clinicians and managers to assess the activity and surrounding factors that allow the development of job plans which are optimal for patient care, education and training and efficiency.
Our workforce consultants, senior clinicians and analysts have over 100 years’ NHS experience, providing KBC with a unique understanding of industry and organisation nuances.
Whole Organisation Diagnostic
Diagnostics highlight if, and where, there are workforce efficiency opportunities.
In addition, it provides high level advice on a range of solutions. Organisations can then assess whether or not they need further support or can progress independently.
Reconfiguration
Reconfiguration is the process of improving patient care by making significant changes to the organisation of, and delivery of healthcare services.
This can involve merging facilities or redistribution of services. This allows the introduction of new and improved models of care and improved patient outcomes.
The NHS has guidelines for planning and delivering service changes, ensuring that proposals are well considered and involve public consultation. KBC Healthcare Consultants has extensive experience of service and workforce reconfiguration.
Matthew was part of the NHS Northwest Team that delivered the largest consultation and subsequent reconfiguration in the NHS to date. Matthew’s role was to deliver the clinical workforce plan for all the potential options and provide an assessment of these options to advise on the suitability and sustainability of those workforce plans.
Matthew explored all-skill mix opportunities and provided advice on the educational suitability and contractual compliance of each potential reconfiguration option.
