A large NHS organisation sought support to better understand growing pressures within its Obstetrics & Gynaecology service. KBC uncovered a significant consultant shortfall that was limiting capacity, driving operational challenges and contributing to over £1.3 million in annual overspend. Much of this cost was linked to heavy reliance on agency clinicians and additional activity required to keep services safe.
By providing a clear picture of where demand exceeded capacity and where job plans no longer reflected the reality of service delivery, we gave the organisation a roadmap to move from reactive firefighting to strategic workforce planning. Addressing the consultant gap, strengthening job planning arrangements, providing rostering support, and improving clarity around clinical duties created opportunities for considerable financial savings, reduced dependency on temporary staff and improved stability across both hospital sites.
The result was a forward‑looking workforce plan that strengthened service resilience, improved efficiency and provided the organisation with a confident, sustainable way forward — improving both patient care and long‑term financial performance.
